Abstract:

The annonaceous gynoecium possesses stigmata arranged in plates according to four patterns, whose distribution provides new evidence about the evolution of family. The primitive gynoecium probably had few carpels. True syncarpy of genera Monodora and Isolona seems to arise sporadically in apocarpous lineages, while pseudosyncarpous ones realize a major evolutive trend of the family.
